About the project
The project aim is to develop novel and advanced analytical techniques for determination of xenobiotics in the environment and human organism taken by food or medicines-herbal medicinal products. Organic and inorganic pollutants, as well active substances of medicines, including herbal medicines are the subjects of the analyze. Analytical techniques based on chromatography (UHPLC, HPLC, GC), mass spectrometry (QqQ, Orbitrap, ion trap) and optical spectroscopy (GFAAS, ICP-AES, etc.) have been used for development of reliable methods for analysis of xenobiotics in biotic and abiotic samples, including foodstuffs and medicines. The developed methods have been used to study the xenobiotic degradation in the environment, their fate in living organisms during bioaccumulation, the interactions with active substances of medicaments and herbal medicines, the metabolic pathways and therapeutic effects. Besides the analytical methods, biological, biochemical and statistical ones are also used in order to assess the health and environmental risks and to identify the pollution sources. Gained knowledge has been applied in food and pharmaceutical industry and for the environmental protection. The project results will be incorporated in 8 PhD thesis, published in international journals, presented during the conferences and at the official project site. Moreover, planned knowledge transfer activities would include organization of thematic events trainings and workshops. Two prominent researchers from abroad are included in the project team.
